78th Independence Day celebrated

Belvai August 15, 2024: The 78th Independence Day was celebrated at Belvai parish after the Thanksgiving Eucharistic Celebration.

Parish Priest Rev. Fr Alphonse Cardoza hoisted the National Flag, all gathered Saluted in a sign of respect, and sang the National Anthem Jana Gana Mana. Melson Pereira gave the command.

In his address, Fr Cardoza said " We have to be aware of our responsibilities. There are a lot of unwanted things happening every day. We can criticize what’s happening around us in the country. We all individuals should understand what freedom is. God has given freedom to each of us to live in this wonderful world created by him. We have to fight evil, not criticize or complain about what others do but strive for the betterment of our country, and community. One has to make up their mind. Our country is in each of our hands. Do good and that’s our responsibility. Many developments have happened and many people have worked and sacrificed their lives. I wish each one of you a happy feast and Independence Day".

Prizes for the ICYM Independence Day Online Quiz were distributed.

Parish Council Vice President Lavina Cardoza, Secretary Jacintha Rego, 21 Pastoral Commissions Convenor Veera Pereira, and Catholic Sabha Belvai Convenor President Steevan Tauro were present.

ICYM Belvai President Melroy Suvares welcomed, Catholic Sabha Belvai Secretary proposed a vote of thanks, and Ms. Annie Dsozua compered the event.
