Married couple's day organized by family commission

Belvai August 11, 2024: The Family Commission of our parish organized "Married Couple's Day" today for all the married couples of the parish.

The event was inaugurated by Lighting the Lamp.

Sr Jacintha Lasrado spoke on the topic "Friendship among parents and children" and said "We faced difficulties, our kids shouldn’t face one. Are we teaching them to handle Rejections? " She urged parents to make time for their kids and not to force kids to study continuously but also give them some free time. The whole day they will be at school and tuition and more use of mobile and television have impacted kids' lives. We parents also need to be responsible for using phones too. Involve kids in household work. Talk with kids personally wherever you get a chance and extra time.  Kids become mature sooner than required. Technology is impacting their minds a lot. We need to strike an emotional chord. Be a role model to our kids- how we are would reflect in them. Faith is a must—God's fearness needs to be taught to kids.

She emphasized Parents as a couple should take care of their Physical and emotional needs too as love between the couple should not fade.

Mr Wilson Pereira spoke about Digital well-being and demonstrated the use of Parental control settings in brief and the Google Family link app and informed the parents on how to reduce screen time and teach their kids the responsible use of mobile and other modern gadgets. He also spoke on the five dimensions of well-being that negatively impact on overuse of screen time.

Parish Priest Rev. Fr Alphonse Cardoza spoke on the topic "Responsibility of Elders to their children". He said "You all can control the phone using different ways but can’t control kids using any technology. Parents are responsible for it. All the inventions are good but everything has a limit. When discipline is not there rest all become useless. 8 hours each for sleep, work, and relaxation. Good discipline will help crave kids good future. Kids have to wake up before sunrise" and called upon parents to raise their kids in good religious values.

The Parish Priest conducted two fun games. One was a group game in which everyone was given a puzzle to solve, and the learning from the game was asked to be shared. Prizes were distributed. The event concluded with a lunch.

Parish Council Vice President Lavina Cardoza, Secretary Jacintha Rego, 21 Pastoral Commissions Convenor Veera Pereira, Sr Jacintha Lasrado, and Family Commission Convenor Steevan Tauro were present on the dais.

Mr. Steevan Tauro welcomed, Mrs. Veera Pereira proposed a vote of thanks, and Mrs. Blanch Dsozua compered the event.
